comparative analysis of cell proliferation ratio in plaque and erosive oral lichen planus: an immunohistochemical study
نویسندگان
چکیده
background: proliferating cell nuclear antigen (pcna) is a nuclear protein synthesized in the late g1 and s-phase of the cell cycle. detection of this protein represents a useful marker of the proliferation status of lesions. this study has been carried out to evaluate the cell proliferation rate in oral lichen planus (olp) and comparison between plaque and erosive lichen planus, which indicates the potential for malignant transformation. materials and methods: this study was comprised of 64 cases of histologically proven lichen planus, out of which 32 cases of plaque and erosive each was taken. two sections were taken from each, one for h and e staining to verify histological diagnosis according to eisenberg criteria, other sections were stained according to super sensitive polymer horse radish peroxidise method for identifying immunohistochemical expression of pcna. data were statistically analyzed by tukey high-range statistical domain test. statistically signifi cant p value was considered <0.05. results: in two types of lichen planus, erosive type (66.86%) showed higher expression of pcna followed by plaque (17.07%). overall, p value was <0.001, which was statistically signifi cant. it indicates that proliferation activity is more in erosive lichen planus followed by plaque type, which ultimately results in increased rate of malignant transformation. conclusion: pcna is a good nuclear protein marker to evaluate the proliferation status of olp. out of the two types of lichen planus, erosive type possesses more proliferative ratio and chances of malignant change is more in this type. it emphasizes the importance of long-term follow-up with erosive type when compared with plaque type. key words: immunohistochemistry, oral lichen planus, proliferating cell nuclear antigen

Comparative analysis of cell proliferation ratio in oral lichen planus, epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma.
BACKGROUND Although oral lichen planus has been classified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a potentially malignant disorder, such classification is still the target of much controversy. AIM To evaluate the cell proliferation rate in oral lichen planus, comparing it to the rate observed in epithelial dysplasia and oral squamous cell carcinoma, aiming at indications which might indica...

BACKGROUND Proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) is a nuclear protein synthesized in the late G1 and S-phase of the cell cycle. Immunodetection of this protein represents a useful marker of the proliferation status of lesions. AIMS The aim of this study is to evaluate the immunohistochemical expression of PCNA in oral lichen planus (OLP) and to assess the PCNA expression in a different la...

A 54-year-old white woman presented with a 3-month history of progressive painful lesions on her tongue and oral mucosa. Her primary care physician initially treated her with nystatin and hydrogen peroxide, followed a few weeks later by acyclovir (Zovirax) ointment and a rapid 5-day prednisone taper, without improvement in her symptoms. Two months after the oral lesions developed, violaceous pa...
متن کاملA comparative study of apoptosis in reticular and erosive oral lichen planus.
The oral lichen planus (OLP) is a chronic inflammatory disease, probably autoimmune, with different clinical forms. The most common types are the reticular and the erosive ones. Apoptosis participates in the destruction of basal keratinocytes, but its role in the perpetuation of the subepithelial lymphocytic infiltrates was not yet investigated. To evaluate the involvement of apoptosis in the e...

conclusions since ki-67 is extensively accepted as an important biomarker in diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancerous and precancerous lesions, a high degree of presence of this biomarker in chronic precancerous lesions, such as erosive olp, can be of great use in prognosis and suggested treatments. objectives this study aimed to evaluate ki-67 expression in erosive and non-erosive oral ...
